How It Works

This tool uses Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT) to detect the dominant frequencies in your audio. It maps those frequencies to the closest notes on a 12-tone equal temperament scale.

Colors are assigned using Alexander Scriabin's clavier à lumières (keyboard with lights). He purportedly had synesthesia, and his final piece was meant to be played on a light piano to bring about the end of the world.

Tragically (or maybe it is a good thing, because the world didn't end?) he passed away at a fairly young age from a bacterial infection in the triangle of death (on his lip)
